Add some italian Seasoning to your faire:

Meet La Serenissima

La Serenissima Caterina di Venezia: the not-so-serene lane act that’s a one woman dance party, horse race, and pasta distributor all in one! With quick wit, impastably bad puns, and her (hobby) horse Harry, she engages patrons, vendors, and other cast across your faire.

Yes, this is Sandro, our ostrich.

Who Is La Serenissima?

La Serenissima Caterina Loredan, Dogaressa di Venezia is a spicy Italian (Venetian) character is quick on her feet both physically and linguistically who employs jokes, (bad) puns- especially involving pasta-, song, and dance in the lanes to keep patrons engaged and entertained as they make their way between stages and shops or are waiting in food lines. She shows up impeccably dressed in dramatic silk gowns, and also has a (hobby) horse named Harry who goes with her everywhere. La Serenissima has a knack for involving patrons, vendors, and local cast all into her lane bits, getting everyone involved. The name is ironic: she is not in the least bit serene for someone who is titled “The Most Serene”.

What does La Serenissima bring to the faire?

  • Greeting patrons at the front gate during busy times and thanking them as they leave later in the day. She also asks what’s their favorite part of the day so can be a great source of information for general managers. She doesn’t spend the whole day at the gate, but will learn the busy times and be sure to make sure patrons are welcomed or thanked during these times. She knows how important the first and last impressions of the faire are!
  • Etiquette (or in most cases how to behave badly) from the time period along with the why and how of it. She also has a whole stage show teaching this available upon request.
  • Ensuring that patrons not in costume are being engaged and made to be a welcome part of the faire and the fun.
  • Will join singalongs or dancing (formal or non formal) to encourage more patron involvement.
  • She wears highly researched, elaborate historical silk gowns that captivate patrons; they love photos with her.
  • Upon request: Lead cheering for a section or knight at the joust.
  • There’s rarely a time you won’t see La Serenissima engaging with someone as she’s making her rounds of your event, whether stopping for a full lecture on saving their penne or a quick quip in passing.

Yes, and?

Beyond the character, who is Nikki?

  1. Education & Experience: Nikki has a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre from the University of Minnesota, and a Master of Arts in Education from Hamline University. She has been directing, costuming, and producing theatre for over 20 years at various levels and has over 100 productions to her name. She has performed improv with Renegade Theatre in Duluth, MN and run a Shakespeare in the Park program for 11 years.
  2. Small Business Owner: Nikki has owned and operated a successful small business since 2013, so she knows how important the patron/customer experience is to the overall success of the faire. When hiring Nikki, you will get someone who is professional, punctual, and an innate leader. She believes in doing a job well, and if she sees something that needs to be done she will simply step in and do it from sweeping the stage to assisting other performers or tech (she has a lot of technical theatre experience!), and organizing events.
  3. Where Can She Perform? As a multi skilled performer and educator, Nikki is available for performances at festivals and faires, libraries, small gatherings, conventions, and parties. She can get everyone to laugh while giving a history or etiquette lesson, or just provide overall silliness to any situation.
